John Besh is one of the most revered (and perhaps most progressive) chefs in New Orleans. He was also a major lady's man back in the day, and female locals I know frequently send me this photo of him serving in Kuwait decades ago. I'm sure this photo gets knocked around a lot of inboxes.

Anyway, I've been meaning to get to one of his monthly charity dinners where proceeds benefit the John Besh Foundation's Chefs Move! Initiative (which provides culinary scholarships and mentorship programs to the city's minority youth.).

My friend Daniel (who I brought as my guest) with Besh.

This is an amazing cause, and an unforgettable event. Not because you get to sit with the 1 percent of New Orleans (who basically own St. Charles Avenue and its famous mansions passed down for generations), but Besh collaborates with some of the finest chefs in America today. This is not an exaggeration. Past guest chefs he's partnered with for Chefs Move! are Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (of Animal and Son of a Gun fame in LA) and Kelly Fields (Willa Jean) with Nina Compton (Top Chef/Compere Lapin). This time around was with Michael Schwartz, a prolific chef in Miami (his Genuine Kitchen is still one of the best.). I'm looking forward to the next dinner!
