These tourist-heavy countries with liberal views are shockingly pro-Trump
Texas voting for Trump? Not a shocker. Russia loving the dude? No brainer. It's not surprising that some places root for 45, but when it's a country you don't expect, it messes with your brain. At first you're hit with disbelief, then you're immersed in WTF land. And we're not talking destinations like, say, Nigeria, which is Pro-Trump but very little Americans visit... we're seeing places where millions of Americans visit that side with 45. Among them is Israel.
Trump is "pro Israel" but many of his followers are not, and Trump has notoriously never apologized or reprimanded them for the hate crimes and vandalism they've done to Jewish-related attractions, buildings and cemeteries. Also, millions of Jewish Americans travel to Israel every year. If Israel continues to be pro-Trump, it could eventually lead to friction.
Take a look at this chart conducted by Pew Research Center for BBC on where Israel stands favorably with Trump (more than Russia!). In fact, Politico announced 1 in 4 in Israel would have voted for Trump if they could. The majority of Israel also supported Trump's travel ban. Without getting too political, it's not a total shocker for some, surprising for many, but tourism is the third largest industry in Israel. An average 3 million visit every year, and the United States accounts for the majority of those visitors. Democrats famously travel 3x more than Republicans. You do the math. Will we see less US tourism in Israel now that Trump is in office?
It's also interesting to note that countries that believe Trump is a strong leader have a history of dictatorship, like Chile, Colombia and Nigeria.
The good news is that positive views of Trump are only found in a handful of countries, but it does include unsuspecting destinations like the Philippines and Vietnam. So, my question for you: how do you think this is going to affect your future trips to the Philippines and Vietnam?
